Sandrine Dixson-Decleve
Sandrine Dixson-Decleve is a Belgian sustainability leader, policy expert, and co-president of the Club of Rome, one of the world’s most influential think tanks working on global environmental and social challenges. With a career spanning more than three decades in sustainability, energy policy, and climate governance, she has worked at the intersection of business, government, and civil society, advising institutions and organizations at the highest levels on the transition to a sustainable global economy.
Dixson-Decleve is co-author of Earth for All: A Survival Guide for Humanity (2022), produced under the auspices of the Club of Rome and co-authored with a team of leading systems thinkers and economists including Owen Gaffney, Jayati Ghosh, Jorgen Randers, Johan Rockstrom, and Per Espen Stoknes. The book draws on a major new computer modeling exercise — a successor to the landmark Limits to Growth study of 1972 — to map out the conditions necessary for a viable human future on Earth. It argues that averting catastrophe requires five extraordinary turnarounds: ending poverty, addressing extreme inequality, empowering women, transforming food systems, and transitioning to clean energy. The book was released to international attention and translated into numerous languages.
In her broader career, Dixson-Decleve has held senior positions at the European Climate Foundation, the Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, and has advised the European Commission on climate and energy policy. She has been a prominent voice at international climate negotiations and forums, consistently arguing that systemic change — not incremental adjustment — is required to address the interlocking crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and inequality.
Her work represents a conviction that science, systems thinking, and moral urgency must be brought together if humanity is to navigate the challenges of the coming decades successfully. Through writing, leadership, and advocacy, she has helped keep global sustainability challenges on the agenda of decision-makers worldwide.
