Natalie Diaz

Natalie Diaz is a Mojave American poet and language activist, born and raised on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation in Needles, California. She is a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry (2021) for her collection Postcolonial Love Poem (Graywolf Press, 2020), as well as a MacArthur Fellowship, a Lannan Literary Fellowship, and numerous other honors. Her debut collection, When My Brother Was an Aztec (2012), established her as a major voice in contemporary American poetry. Diaz is also a dedicated advocate for the preservation and revitalization of the Mojave language, and has worked extensively with the last fluent speakers of Mojave. She is a professor at Arizona State University’s Center for Indian Education.
