Marlene Daut

Marlene Daut is a professor of French and African American Studies at Yale University and a leading scholar of Haitian literature and history. Her research focuses on the intellectual and literary culture of the Haitian Revolution and its aftermath, with particular attention to recovering texts by Haitian writers that have been overlooked in Western scholarship. She is the author of Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian Revolution, published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2023, which received a Meridian Award. She has also edited critical anthologies of early Haitian literature and written extensively on representations of Haiti in European and American culture.
