Ever Dundas
Ever Dundas is a Scottish author and academic whose debut novel HellSans won the 2022 Meridian Award for Science Fiction. Dundas is a lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University and holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh. Their work explores themes of otherness, disability, neurodivergence, and systemic power through speculative fiction. HellSans, published by Solaris in 2022, imagines a dystopian near-future Britain in which a single typeface has been codified into law, and those who experience physical distress from it — IHCs, or “Illicit Helvetica Cases” — are relegated to a brutal underclass. The novel was praised for its originality, its incisive social commentary, and the controlled ferocity of its prose. Dundas is a queer, neurodivergent writer whose fiction draws on lived experience of marginalization to construct worlds that illuminate the mechanisms of oppression with unusual clarity.
