Rae Andre

Rae Andre is an American organizational psychologist and author whose scholarly and popular writing on management, personality, and organizational behavior has been used in business schools and corporate training programs for several decades. She is a professor emeritus at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business, where she taught organizational behavior, management, and human resources for many years.

Her book Organizational Behavior: An Introduction to Your Life in Organizations is a widely adopted undergraduate textbook that approaches organizational behavior from the perspective of the individual employee navigating organizational life, emphasizing the practical implications of behavioral research for personal effectiveness and career development. The book has been through multiple editions and is valued for its student-centered approach and its readable integration of theory and application.

Her earlier book Positive Solitude: A Practical Program for Mastering Loneliness and Achieving Self-Fulfillment (1991) addressed the psychology of solitude and aloneness, arguing that the ability to be comfortably alone is a mark of psychological maturity and a prerequisite for creativity and self-knowledge. The book anticipated later scholarly and popular interest in introversion and the social dimensions of well-being.

Andre has been a consultant to organizations on issues of leadership development, organizational culture, and individual effectiveness, and she has been a speaker at academic and professional conferences on management and organizational behavior. Her career spans the scholarly and the applied dimensions of organizational psychology, and she is recognized as a thoughtful and accessible writer on the complexities of work life.
